Plone Author Interface Heuristic Analysis
Possible Problems
- Consistency
- It's difficult to tell what is a hyperlink. Perhaps they should be underlined?
- System State
- The validation box should be seperated from the upload/download to avoid confusion(currently it is connected).
- Perhaps there should be a box with information about the different modes, to let the user know what has been edited and when. For example, content status - edited, metadata status - not yet edited, etc. This will help them keep track of how they have modified a module.
- Submit/Discard and Preview Links need to placed somewhere where they stay put.(box?)
- Minimalist
- Extra save buttons unnecessary(edit and metadata page)
- Memory
- default values would possibly make it more likely for users to change them
- Feedback
- no feedback on currect action ex. when file is saved how will the user know?
- Flexibility
- no differences or shortcuts for experienced users
- Good Error Messages
- invalid modules have poor messages(perhaps a highlight feature would be good?)
- Prevent Errors
- at this point, users are allowed to upload files that are non-cnxml. Is this by design?
- from link page, perhaps the system should check the link on save, if not valid ask
add anyway?
- Undo
- Simplify, novice users may find the interface confusing
- Help
- There needs to be some type of help available for authors
