Yesterday, the RhaptosCommunity Product and the member profiles went out on beta.cnx.rice.edu.

Yesterday afternoon, we repointed beta.cnx.rice.edu at the live backend. Now, beta uses all the data from the live server but has the added bonus of new community features.

On beta, you cannot create new communities, but you can join communities and participate in them. We will be creating a limited amount of communities for specific groups to test out the features. If you are interested in having one, contact kclarks@rice.edu and we will create it for you. In the future, we will allow anyone to create a community, but for now we only want to have a select number available.

Also, I strongly encourage you to log into beta and modify your member profile. This is a new page that will let people see information about you. Since beta does point at the live backend, any changes you make now will eventually be available on the live server as well.

All other code and data is identical to the live server on cnx.rice.edu, so you can use beta for content browsing and content editing as well.

Please email kclarks@rice.edu for feedback on the beta server and the new features.

Shouldn't the text on /plone_memberprefs_panel linking to one's profile editor read something like "Edit Profile" instead of "Personal Preferences"?

Well, yes and no... Theoretically the editing page is also where the author could edit their preferences as well, but since we don't let them choose any preferences right now, its just their profile options. If we start having more than a couple preferences to set, I would split this out into its own page, but until then, I will just leave the member profile form on the preferences form.
